(NCA NewsWire) Two Perth women have faced court after being charged over the alleged plan to circumcise a baby girl as part of their cultural beliefs.

Police allege Sabrina Lightbody, 23, and Noridah Binte Mohd, 50, asked a doctor to conduct the genital mutilation procedure on a two-week-old infant in January.

The doctor refused and the circumcision did not happen.

Child abuse squad detectives then launched an investigation.
