(NCA NewsWire) Two Perth women have faced court after being charged over the alleged plan to circumcise a baby girl as part of their cultural beliefs.
Police allege Sabrina Lightbody, 23, and Noridah Binte Mohd, 50, asked a doctor to conduct the genital mutilation procedure on a two-week-old infant in January.
The doctor refused and the circumcision did not happen.
Child abuse squad detectives then launched an investigation.
“The WA Police Force embraces the diversity provided by the many cultural and ethnic groups that form our community,” police said in a statement on Friday.
