(Tennessean) A legal ethics watchdog in Tennessee is under fire after he was accused of being an “anti-Muslim bigot” by one of the lawyers he was investigating.
Jerry Morgan, disciplinary counsel for the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility, plays a prominent role in punishing lawyers for misconduct. In a court filing last month, a Nashville-based lawyer said Morgan shouldn’t have that power because of multiple social media posts he made criticizing Muslims and the Islamic faith.
Morgan made a slew of disparaging comments on Twitter, praising President Donald Trump for “stopping Muslims” and “talking big against Muslims.” Morgan said Islam was not a peaceful religion and made comments linking the faith with violence and “Muslim terrorists,” according to a series of 2015 posts included in the filing.
