(Age) Convicted terror cell leader Abdul Nacer Benbrika faces deportation from Australia if he is released from prison, after having his citizenship cancelled by the federal government.
Benbrika has completed a 15-year jail term over a plot to bomb Melbourne’s Crown casino and the MCG, but the government argues he still poses a safety risk and should remain locked up. He remains in custody pending a Supreme Court trial that will determine his fate.
People convicted of terror offences can be kept in detention for up to three years after their sentence ends if a supreme court grants an application by the home affairs minister.
