(NCA NewsWire) A convicted terrorist who plotted attacks on Australian soil will spend an extra month behind bars as lawyers argue he should not be released after he finishes his sentence.
Supreme Court Justice Andrew Tinney on Tuesday granted an interim detention order against Abdul Nacer Benbrika.
The convicted terrorist, who was jailed in 2009, was due to be released on November 5, but that date has been pushed back to December 3.
Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton wants to keep the terrorist in jail until 2023 under a continuing detention order.
Commonwealth barrister Rowena Orr QC said six witnesses would be called in the case, and she would need to cross-examine at least two witnesses.
