(Columbus Dispatch) A central Ohio mosque is trying to pull the community together while making history at the same time.
For what is believed to be the first time in Ohio, a call to prayer, also known as Adhan, began being publicly broadcast Saturday in Clinton Township at the Al-Rahma Mosque on Albert Avenue. The call will continue daily.
Mohamed Abdi, who handles community relations for the mosque, said the call to prayer comes at an “essential time.”
“It is taking time at a place we need to come together and not lose hope,” he said.
A call to prayer invites everyone to listen and pray. It involves five daily prayers: Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (midday), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset) and Isha (night). The prayer can last anywhere from a minute to four minutes.
