Sweden aims to speed up rejection of unfounded asylum requests with ‘safe countries’ list

(Local) Sweden plans to expedite the rejection of “unfounded” asylum requests by implementing a list of countries deemed to be completely safe.

The plans would allow the Migration Agency to handle asylum cases from countries on the list as a “fast-track.”

These asylum seekers would not be entitled to stay in the country while waiting for an appeal in the Migration Court of Appeal, but would instead be expelled if their case was rejected by the Migration Court.

This change could reduce the processing time for asylum cases from several months to just one, according to Swedish Minister for Justice and Migration Morgan Johansson.
