Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s talk will happen, perhaps even at Poway school ‘I regret there is so much misunderstanding,’ school board president says after district pulled permit

(SD Union-Tribune) The abrupt withdrawal of a permit allowing Rep. Rashida Tlaib to speak at the Westview High School theater, reportedly to allow staff time to clean the facility before the holiday break, will not block the Democratic congresswoman’s visit, organizers say.

In fact, since the Poway Unified School District first approved the event on Wednesday, then did an about-face on Thursday after receiving a letter from a conservative group opposed to the program, the [Council on American-Islamic] Relations (CAIR) has been overwhelmed by offers of alternate venues for the Dec. 21 program, said Dustin Craun, CAIR California’s executive director.

“We’ve had a bunch of partners reach out to us this morning,” Craun said Friday.
