(WXYZ) It’s a sweeping change for students in a local school district when it comes to the meat being served at school lunches.
“We are serving a fresher, higher quality & more cost effective meat,” says Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko.
Speaking publicly about his new menu for the school year, the superintendent says a decision to serve only halal meat isn’t about religion, as some have suggested.
Furthermore, he says that requests from a student advisory board led to the decision being implement[ed] this year. While some parents are sharing support for the program, one who asked not to be identified tells us her children aren’t happy with the food, and want other options.
