(Sydney Morning Herald) Radical Muslim preacher Mohammed Junaid Thorne has been arrested for large-scale drug trafficking, after police allegedly seized drugs, firearms and cash in raids across south-west Sydney.
The 30-year-old was one of three people arrested by the NSW Terrorism Squad, as part of an investigation into supply of illegal firearms, and later drugs and tobacco, highlighting the “nexus between transnational organised crime and terrorism funding.”
While the investigation was led by the Terrorism Squad, none of the people arrested have been charged with terror offences.
Over the course of the investigation, which was first launched in January last year, police allegedly seized a Ruger pistol, $260,000 in cash, more than 2.5 kilograms of cocaine and 1 kilogram of MDMA.
