Give Matteo Salvini the Nobel Peace Prize, says far-right German AfD’s Beatrix von Storch thinks the Italian interior minister has made a ‘great contribution to the security and stability of Europe.’

(Politico) German MP Beatrix von Storch reckons Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini should be given the Nobel Peace Prize for his “great contribution to the security and stability of Europe.”

“I propose Matteo Salvini for the Nobel Peace Prize because he has exemplified a successful policy of stability for Europe and for saving thousands of lives, an example others should follow,” Von Storch of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) said in a statement Thursday.

Von Storch was an MEP but left the European Parliament after winning a seat in Germany’s 2017 national election.

In Thursday’s statement, Von Storch argued that “by closing Italy’s borders” Salvini had “successfully curbed illegal migration to Europe as well as the smuggling industry and shown what honest and determined politics can achieve.”
