Illinois woman gets 6 1/2 years in federal prison for supporting St. Louis County man who fought and died in Syria

(St. Louis Post-Dispatch) An Illinois woman was sentenced Tuesday to six and one-half years in prison for helping to support terrorists, including a former St. Louis County man who fought and died in Syria, prosecutors said.

Mediha Medy Salkicevic, 39, of Schiller Park, pleaded guilty in May to a charge of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists. She admitted sending money via PayPal to a co-defendant Ramiz Hodzic, who bought supplies for fighters in Syria.

One of those fighters was Abdullah Ramo Pazara, who lived in St. Louis County and became a U.S. citizen before traveling to Syria, where he eventually joined al-Qaida in Iraq, which evolved into the Islamic State, prosecutors have said.
