Point Pleasant man sentenced for plotting bomb attack in New York

(Asbury Park Press) A Point Pleasant man was sentenced Friday to 16 years in federal prison for plotting to use a pressure cooker to commit terrorism in New York City on behalf of the Islamic State group.

Gregory Lepsky, 22, had pleaded guilty one year ago to one count of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, specifically ISIS.

U.S. District Court Judge Michael Shipp sentenced Lepsky at the federal courthouse in Trenton, which was later announced [by] U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito for the District of New Jersey and Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers in a joint statement on Friday evening.

On Feb. 21, 2017, Lepsky was arrested by the Point Pleasant Police Department in connection with an incident that occurred that day in his family’s home.
