(Dallas Morning News) An Arlington man faces federal charges after authorities say he groomed a would-be recruit for a terror group and arranged to get him to Pakistan.
Michael Kyle Sewell, 18, was charged Friday in Fort Worth with conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, according to the Justice Department. He will remain in federal custody.
“We stay on constant alert for radicals plotting attacks targeting citizens of the United States, here or abroad,” U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox said. “Countering terrorist threats is our highest priority.”
Authorities said Sewell recruited a man to join Lashkar-e-Taiba, a militant religious organization focused on establishing an Islamic caliphate on the Indian subcontinent. After meeting online, Sewell put the recruit in touch with an individual he believed could help get him to Pakistan.
