(BBC) Potential victims in areas where forced marriage is prevalent are unaware it is a crime, a charity has said.
While legislation has seen a rise in people reporting concerns, campaigners said there was a “worrying split” with some victims and families in the dark.
More than a dozen women at an event in Bradford looking at forced marriage said they did not know it was illegal.
Charity Karma Nirvana said if victims were unaware it was a crime, they would be unlikely to seek help.
Forced marriage became a criminal offence in 2014 and there have been four convictions in total across the UK since.
