(WGME) A federal judge is dropping charges of female genital mutilation against a Michigan doctor.
U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman said the federal law is unconstitutional.
It’s an issue that’s been much-debated at the State House because Maine has no law specifically banning the procedure.
Some advocates say they’re shocked by the recent ruling and are calling on Maine lawmakers to take action.
“I’m a survivor of female genital mutilation,” said F.A. Cole during an interview with CBS 13.
