Counterprotesters say five of their delegates were arrested during an anti-Islam rally in Toronto

(Toronto Star) Organizers protesting an anti-Islam demonstration in Toronto say five of their delegates were arrested during the rally Saturday on University Ave.

The event, hosted by PEGIDA, an organization for “Patriots of Canada Against the Islamization of the West” — according to their Facebook page — said that the purpose of the rally was to “warn against encroaching Islam.”

Simon Rivers, a delegate with the General Defence Committee of the Industrial Workers of the World, who was at the event said that five counterprotesters were arrested. He said members of other far-right groups, including the Proud Boys, Northern Guard and Sons of Odin were in attendance.
