(Delaware News Journal) Muslim Advocates, a national legal advocacy organization, sent a cease-and-desist letter to Wilmington demanding an investigation into alleged discrimination at a public pool, training for staff and actions “to remedy the harm to the community.”
The letter, sent Thursday, comes after a pool manager was accused of asking children in an Arabic summer camp to exit the Foster Brown pool on June 25 and other occasions because they were wearing cotton shorts, shirts and hijabs.
The manager, Glenda Pinkett, said on Monday she was enforcing her interpretation of a city rule requiring “proper” swim attire, although there are no city or state regulations that prohibit wearing cotton in pools.
