(Springfield Republican) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s unexpected primary win over high-ranking Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley in New York sparked talk of another potential upset in Massachusetts.
But U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, D-Springfield, has largely dismissed the idea that the outcome in New York will have any bearing on his district.
Neal will square off against progressive Springfield attorney Tahirah Amatul-Wadud in the state’s Democratic primary Sept. 4. The winner of that contest will be on the ballot for the November general election. No Republican candidates have emerged.
Neal told the Republican this week that he believes it’s hard to glean a prediction of the Massachusetts primary’s outcome from the New York results given the differences between the two districts.
